Takeing Care Of Roses
To get the most life out of your roses, you need to do a few care maintenance tips to insure that the roses last as long as possible. The first thing that you do when you receive your long stem roses is to carefully unpack them from the box. The roses come in bunches of 25, pick up 1 bunch and remove the plastic cover that the roses come in. Next, cut the rubber bands and carefully cut the cardboard that covers the head of the roses. Now you have the long stem roses exposed and be careful of the thorns. If you want to remove any of the thorns, do so at this time but be careful not to damage the stem of the rose.
The next thing you want to do is remove any leaves that may come in contact with the water. If leaves are left in the water, it accelerates the bacteria growth in the water and shortens the life of the rose. You can also remove and damaged rose petals at this time, they are called guards and each rose may have 1 or 2 damage petals (sometimes none). Prepare your vase that you will display the roses in, fill about half way with warm water along with the rose food / preservative that comes with the roses. Get yourself a small tub of water and take each rose and cut about 1″ inch from the end of the stem under water, this helps prevent any air bubbles forming in the stem that could prevent the proper water flow.
After your vase is complete, place your long stem roses in a cool area, away from heat, direct sunlight, drafts, etc….. You should repeat the changing of the water every 2 days with a fresh cut on the end of the stem and new plant food / preservative. By doing this, depending on the rose and the amount of rose petals on the rose, they should last anywhere from 7 to 14 days.
